The My Body Back Project was set up in August 2013 by student nurse Pavan Amara as a support group for women who have been the victims of rape and sexual assault after she could find little help to assist her cope with the relationship with her own body.
Pavan was raped as a teenager and, as a result felt alienated from her own body:
“I couldn’t go to the doctor any more because I didn’t want to be touched. I didn’t want to be in a crowd [and] it affected my relationships, but the biggest thing it affected was my perception of my body and my body image. I felt terrible.”
Full details of the project, the services and help they offer can be found on their website
An interview with Amara that appeared in the Guardian (14/5/15) gives a good overview of the project, its origins and its aims.
